Bio

Andrew Thrapp is a scientist working in biomedical optics. He is primarily interested in microscopy and fiber-based endomicroscopy for the detection, staging, and progression-risk assessment of disease. His background is in combining different modalities to include structural modalities like Optical Coherence Tomography (the optical analogue of ultrasound), with other optical modalities, such as fluorescence, or non-optical modalities such as biopsy. His background includes pre-clinical benchtop studies using artificial intelligence to classify disease states in the colon. He is currently pursuing projects that lie at the interface between hardware development, data interpretation using artificial intelligence, and clinical translation. He is interested in broad-impact translational research in the cardiovascular system, the esophagus, duodenum, colon, and brain as well as other externally accessible or probe accessible organs.
